Dear readers,
Wanted to share some fantastic news this week.
One of our community members was elected from all the tea plantation
workers in India.
There are over 10000 tea estates ,employing 5 million people throughout
India,from Darjeeling,Terai,Dooars,Assam.Himachal pradesh, tripura,
Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu(Nilgiris), Karnataka and Kerala.
Ruplal Rai,from our Koilapani, left for Lingen,Germany to attend the
Fairtrade Labelling organization's, four day global conference on the
16th September, It was adream for Ruplal and all our community that
someone from Makaibari was accorded such a great honour.
At arrival at Dusseldorf from London,Ruplal,thought he was in paradise.
He just couldn't imagine that such wonderful infrastructure existed in
this world.
He was amazed at the beautiful autobahns and the high speed movement of
the traffic. The houses,avenues,shops,cars all were awesome to him.
He could not imagine that such order was possible.
However, at the conference, he was greatly cheered when he found his
name and a facsimile awaiting him in Nepali from me.
He felt very proud that the community was supporting him,
as he was the only one ,everyone was looking for in the gathering of
over 500 people to be given the message. He felt strong and his resolve
to present the spirit of makaibari was very clear.
He realised that
inspite of all the material glitter around him,that Germany did not have
the radiance of people living peacefully with nature,which was in his
heart from his life at Makaibari.
He impressed all in the gathering with
his wonderful life at Makaibari,and how the Mb community had evolved to
Joint Forest Management,addressing Agenda21,WHICH ALL western
governments were debating to incorporate,for rural lifestyles this
millennia.
He was so impressive that he was invited to address two
groups in Dresden and Leipsig,as well as the German press. All were
charmed by this simple tea farmer from makaibari/Darjeeling.
He was then invited on the 25th September to meet the German President,
Mr.Rau. Please download all pictures from the presse section of the

The President asked him,as to what he should do first,whether to drink
the tea, watch the video casette of makaibari,or to read the book
Das Wunder von Darjeeling, written by me in German
,which Ruplal had presented him. Ruplal replied as he was the German
President,all at Makaibari conceived him to be the Trinity,so he could
all three acts at once. Everyone laughed at his reply and he became the
darling of the German president.
The community welcomed him back on the 27th September.
Ruplal has done wonders for Makaibari,as he is a also a wonder of
Makaibari.
